The Overstay: Cheap, art, punk music and friendly

“Who don’t know about the over stay??? Hostel with an art style on the wall, so it’s interesting for everybody who likes art, But sometimes for somebody doesn’t like it, they will scare at first time they come in. the over stay so good for you guys traveler on budget, backpacker and for you traveler with free soul.”



It was my first time t to aboard, I went to Thailand. So I need to prepare all and won’t get lost in there. I search a lot of information about Thailand start from food, transportation, interesting place, culture, and hostel and of course condition in Thailand due to Thailand has chaotic situation of politic and much demonstration in some places. At the point, I tried to looking for hostel in Bangkok area with the cheapest price and using search engine to find it, but not easy to find the cheapest hostel, then I tried to search by hostel bookers and the result, there are many hostel in Bangkok with cheap price.
They are:
• Centaur inn is located in 1 Charoen Krung Road Soi 30 Bangkok, 10500, its less 15 minutes from Khao San Road with price only $5, 5.
• Shadow inn is located in 550 Vanish 1, Wat-Koh, Sampathawong, silom Bangkok and its also less 15 minutes from Khao San Road with price $6.
• The Overstay is located Charan Sanit Wong, Number 80-82 next to Soi 40, Pinklao, and 20 minutes from Khao San Road, you know what guys with price only $3,3.
• And The Rainbow is located Chakrabongse Rd, Talat Yot, Bangkok, 10200,its next to Khao San Road with price $6.
Can you imagine they have price not more $6 with complete facilities such as: WIFI, ac, fan, kitchen, mini bar, television and etc. wow so crazy, amazing!. For room, they have a category, these are:
• Private bedroom with share bathroom.
• Bunk bed with share bathroom or we called dormitory.

Finally I chosen the Overstay with dormitory room category with price $3, 3 or 100 bath or Rp 35.000. I thought its so cool, we can meet many people from other countries and share bedroom, it would be amazing experiences because we can share our story to each other and make a new friends.

How to get The overstay?? Is not easy to find the Overstay from Don Mueang airport, because not too much public transportation directly to go there. But, you can take a taxi from the airport to the Overstay, it spend 150 bath at night and maybe more 200 bath at afternoon because as you know Bangkok has crazy traffic jam.

What i was think at first time when i saw this hostel?? The Overstay is a unique and hippies hostel with art style in the wall, so interesting for everybody who likes art. But sometimes for somebody doesn’t like it, they will scare at first time they come in. the overstay so good for you guys traveler on budget, backpacker and for you traveler with free soul. When I came in I got a surprised, they held mini concert of punk music. They are singing together, drunk together, dancing together and of course fun together. They did punk concert every Saturday night and until come morning. I got also one shoot vodka as welcome drink as sign of friendship, maybe they did to every people as sign of friendship.

The Overstay has a concept hostel, “six tiered cake of fun and living”, albeit one situated in a haunted ex-brothel. It’s a hostel, it’s a bar, it’s a squat, it’s an artists’ studio; every floor has a different concept and use. The ground floor bar, honesty-run of course using stamps to record drinks bought in guests’ Overstay 'passports’, is the venue for the regular club nights. Move up a level and it becomes a hostel, each room sporting an elaborately painted interior, whilst the second floor above is an open-plan art gallery and cinema. Homeless hippies can find a place to crash for free in the third floor’s so-called refugee camp, although the long-time residents’ rooms on the two uppermost floors are decidedly plusher. To top it off, there’s a hammock strewn rooftop and you can chill out in over there.

I know this is a very cheap hostel, so you get what you pay for. But as the cheapest hostel, the over stay has some disadvantages: some doors are broken, no locks, some broken bed, amenities are damage or broken, bed smell, and the noise from the regular parties can make sleeping difficult. But for me as traveler with cheap way is never mind with all disadvantages. Its not the point for me, and as long as I stayed in there, I got amazing experiences, a lot of friends and made me more open minded.
